The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the level of thinking that created them. –Albert Einstein
In order to take your business to the next level, you must become a Strategic Business Owner. The first step in becoming a Strategic Business Owner is to face reality. Now consider the second step: your mindset shift from technician to CEO.
Your results are directly related to your actions and behaviors. Behind all of our behaviors is a mindset. It is our mindset and behaviors that lead to the results we experience. I can’t stress this enough!
The key to changing our results is changing our behaviors. And the key to changing our behaviors and habits is changing our mindsets. So in order to become a more Strategic Business Owner, we must first shift our mindset.
But what does this look like?
Why Did You Go Into Business?
Most of us got into our businesses NOT because we were great entrepreneurs, but because we had a skill, trade, or passion that we wanted to pursue! We were TECHNICIANS, and technicians think and work like employees, not entrepreneurs. To grow as an entrepreneur, we must shift our mindset from that of an employee or worker to that of a CEO or leader. This is crucial!
Many business owners are former technicians now masquerading as entrepreneurs.

They think they are entrepreneurs, but they don’t act that way. As accomplished technicians, they have a hard time letting go of such familiarity and expertise. They remain trapped in a technical mindset and work approach. As a result, they often fall short in the areas of leadership, marketing, vision, strategic planning, and delegation—the characteristics of a Strategic Business Owner. This often leads to the business owner blues!
To become a Strategic Business Owner, you MUST shift your mindset. You must begin to think and act more like a CEO and leader instead of a technician or employee.
But how do you make this shift?
The Mindset Shift of a CEO
You must first acknowledge your technical bias, your addiction to being busy, and your uneasiness with delegation. Next, you must adopt the “big picture” mindset of a Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Then, as CEO, you must begin to make it a priority to spend more time working ON your business instead of always just working IN your business.
